At one point I was prompted to install some updates, which I did. Everything was wiped out in the process and I've been loading everything back in. I recently had my motherboard replaced on my HP Pavilion dv9205us Notebook, running Windows Vista Home Premuim 32 bit. I found a quick solution and thought I'd post it here in the hopes that it will also help someone else. Why can I not play any sounds from the internet? I have uninstalled the SPDIF with no change. If I go back to the Internal Speaker/Headphones and change the Quick Play Mute button and change it to Orange, then go back to SPDIF, it stays Orange, but again I can see the Sound Mixer change from Mute to Unmute. If I try "Test", I can see the green bar show sound, but hear nothing. If I have the Quick Play button selected "Blue"(no mute) and change to the SPDIF, then try to change from "Blue" to "Orange" (mute), it does nothing, but I can watch the Sound Mixer change. This all works if the Internal Speaker/Headphones is selected. Here is what happens with the Mute button on the quick play, it works normal and you can watch the sound mixer change and the button goes from Blue to Orange. I have tried the suggestion posted above with no change.

I have tried to uninstall the sound, update drivers, select from Internal Speaker/Headphones to SPDIF with no change. I can play music, DVDs, but when it comes to the internet or quicken, i get no sounds. I am using a HP Pavilion dv6245us laptop. I am worn out and frustrated from this - probably something very simple but cannot find it. No sound also when same files are played from a dvd. No enhancements are checked under Properties>Enhancements Properties>Levels shows SPDIF with speaker icon operational. Properties>Advanced shows two exclusive modes checked.

Tried checking DTS Audio and also Microsoft WMA Pro audio, the only other formats listed. Under SPDIF Properties>Supported formats only Dolby Digital is checked.
